5-Year Basketball Program Action Plan
If you are going to build a basketball program, this should be the #1 priority for your program. This is a 5-year action plan that reveals your yearly benchmarks and action steps for each year of your program. This pdf document will take you through the steps that I have taken in building our program here at Lake Oconee Academy.
Basketball Feeder System Development Program
What this program will provide you is three levels of feeder system development for your basketball program. Level 1 is our program expectations and goals for our players and coaches; Level 2 is our grades 1-6 development plan and Level 3 is our grades 7-12 development plan. Each Level is explained in detail how you run your feeder system. It can be adjusted based on your program needs and system, but it gives you a strong foundation to building a program from the ground up.
We start our Girls’ Basketball feeder system at very young ages here in our program. The earlier we can get them exposed to the basic skills and enjoyment of the game, the better. The following is a description of what we need our youth coaches to run:
Goal: We want to focus on long-term basketball skill development and character development in our program.
We do not believe in the “Win by Friday Night” approach to teaching our young players. This is where we are preparing our young athletes to win games, rather than focusing on player skill development. We believe in teaching based on age-appropriate skill development. This means each age level is being taught specific skills based on their age.
The All-Around Player
This notebook describes what we look for in a player in our program. This player must be an all-around player who is a very versatile basketball player. In addition, we discuss the mental side of "play your best" and playing with toughness. We call this TPW which is tough players win. All of these qualities will produce a All-around player.
